American
Idol January 24th “Getting Lucky in Greensboro” 1/25/06
By Marcus
Thousands of would-be
singers lined up hoping for that lucky break and that one, just that one
opportunity to make an impression on Paula, Randy, and Simon. Well, some
made that impression but most just fell flat as a fallen cake. Here is a
brief recap.
“Lean on me” Sybrina needs to lean on a singing coach.
Even with her catchy name of Cachet, this woman needs to confine
her singing to the shower with the door shut.
Sparkling roller skating waitress Kellie’s mother walk out when
she was just a toddler and her professional criminal drug
addict father spent more time inside the big house than out. But that did
not deter this determined young woman. Living with her grandfather and
making him proud, she is singing her way to
Hollywood
.
Singing “Old Black Magic”, tuxedo and bowtie Shawn was over
dressed and under prepared.
Ventriloquist Richard with his side kick dummy Scottie did not fool
the judges.
Imitating a distant cousin of Donald Duck, pink cowgirl hat wearing
Ronda was an idol.
Seductive and smooth Sergeant Steven with his four rows of ribbons
danced with Paula and is on his way to
Hollywood
. If I was his wife, my leash would be short and my eyes not averted.
Sometimes in this show, a pure beautiful talent leaps out like a
Hawaiian sunrise. Tonight that talent was Halicia’s voice pouring like
molten gold. This gal is on her way to
Hollywood
and to stardom.
Porcupine hair Donny needs to keep his day job.
Former ward of the state Kendra spent her younger life in and out
of nearly four dozen foster care homes. But her spirit was not drowned.
Marrying too young, she wised up and kicked her husband to curb. Raising
her three children alone, she set her sights high and with her voice she
is
Hollywood
bound. This woman is a model of making the best of what life throws at
you.
Climb that mountain,
Kendra because we expect great things from you.
Will the next American Idol come forth from
Greensboro
? The odds, me thinks, are
good.
