American
Idol January 25th “Cable Car Bells are Ringing, but there is singing in
San Francisco?” 1/26/06
By Marcus
Perhaps it was the fog of the bay or the barking of
the seals, but something was amiss among Paula, Randy and Simon. They
bickered. They snipped. They argued and they fought. Then like a small
child’s tantrum, Simon walked out. And THEY are the judges?
Meantime, here is a quick recap of the show.
Happy Hawaiian Heidi’s operatic aria was spot on, but her pop
tune had all the taste of leftover poi.
Heavy bosomed Shawn’s yelling (note---yelling, not singing)
ruptured eardrums and shattered hearing aids.
But finger snapping Jose Sway’s smooth vocals earned him a flight
to
Hollywood
.
Wolf lover Mathew’s howling voice frightened the pack.
Former air force Airman John’s singing and dancing would
certainly earn him a street performer’s stage on Fisherman’s Wharf,
but he was also good enough for
Hollywood
.
Before she was even born, Katherine’s voice teacher and singer
mother was lulling her to sleep at night and waking her to sweet music.
With her ear literally pressed to the audition door, she heard her
daughter’s emotive selection of “God Bless the Child” secure her a
Hollywood
ticket.
Have trouble falling asleep? Eric’s white-noise voice is more
effective than Ambien.
Singing poet Shalicia quit her job to prepare for the show. Bad
decision. But after Simon’s intervention with a call to her former
employee, she has her old job back.
With her rock and roll singer father cheering her on, sweet 16 year
old small town girl Shawna is heading west to
Hollywood
.
Marcus the “all terrain” Bay entertainer failed to start his
engine.
Micro skirt college student Jayne has great legs and a voice to
match. She is going to
Hollywood
.
Big hair rock-girl Deborah had an attitude but not the voice to
match. It was during her audition that Simon literally walked off the set.
It had nothing to do with her, but everything to do with his ego.
Finally, we had Manuel clutching his religious icon for support.
But with his voice, he didn’t have a prayer.
So that’s it for
San Francisco
. Let’s hope that the next city will produce more talent and less
quarrelling among the judges.
