Angelina Jolie Slams Madonna Adoption  1/9/07

Angelina Jolie has slammed pop superstar Madonna for adopting Malawian child David Banda in an "illegal" manner.

Actress Jolie, who has two adopted children of her own, thinks Madonna went about finding a child to adopt in the wrong way.

Madonna brought one-year-old David to the UK from his home country of Malawi late last year (OCT06). He will stay with Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie for 18 months before Malawian officials decide whether or not they are legally able to adopt the child.

In an interview with French magazine Gala, Jolie says, "Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where he was born. It's a country where there is no real legal framework for adoption.

"Personally, I prefer to stay on the right side of the law. I would never take a child away from a place where adoption is illegal."

However, Jolie believes Madonna's intentions were good and is amazed at the media reaction to her adoption.

She adds, "I have been horrified by the attacks she's been subjected to. All that should count is the happiness of her little David."
