Mandy Moore Leaves Pop Songs in Her Past  1/26/07

Singer/actress Mandy Moore is desperately trying to distance herself from her pop star past by recording intensely personal songs on her new album.

Although her first two albums sold more than 1.5 million copies, the star claims she is embarrassed by her early recordings.

She tells Jane magazine, "I feel bad that people wasted their money on such trite, blah pop music."

The 22-year-old has written about her break-up with Scrubs star Zach Braff, as well as songs about her own self-discovery.

She adds, "If it were a non-celebrity making this record, the buzz would be that this girl is the real deal."
