Hugh
Grant Felt Awful as Pop Performer
1/29/07
Hugh Grant suffered for his art while playing a washed-up 80s pop star
in new movie Music & Lyrics because he felt terrible trying to look
like a seasoned performer.
The star struggled with singing sessions, but that was nothing compared
to scenes where he had to dance.
He explains, "You'd think it would be fun because it looks like it
was fun but it was torture. It was at the very end of the shoot and we'd
all had enough of each other.
"I'm a man of 46 and I realized I'm very ill cast for the film.
I'm not a music enthusiast; I can't move very naturally, I don't exist
very naturally so I find a lot of the pop stuff incredibly difficult.
"I did watch a lot of Duran Duran videos but they sent me to
sleep. My co-star, Drew Barrymore, was concerned that I had no interest in
music, so she bought me a lot of music which was very kind of her.
"I thank her for that because now I look like a human being.
Before her generous contribution I only had the soundtrack from Godspell.
