Gwen Stefani Auditioned for Mr & Mrs Smith Role  1/31/07

Gwen Stefani was devastated when she didn't land the lead role in Mr & Mrs Smith, but didn't take the rejection personally because she was passed over in favor of good friend Angelina Jolie.

The Wind it Up star was looking to expand her acting career after her appearance as Jean Harlow in The Aviator and was thrilled to be called in for an audition.

Jolie met future boyfriend Brad Pitt during the shoot and the couple now have three young children together.

Stefani tells British magazine Elle, "I don't know if I almost got it (the role), but I certainly put a lot of effort in!

"They were clearly looking for a certain girl, and you couldn't get more opposite than me and Angelina."

Stefani refused to let the role affect their friendship and regularly schedules play dates between her son Kingston and Pitt and Jolie's daughter, Shiloh.

She adds, "They were like two little blobs when they met. Maybe they'll get married when they grow up? That'd be cute!"
