Dr. Phil McGraw Visited Britney Spears in Hospital to Tape Special Show  1/7/08

Britney Spears' ongoing personal problems will be the focus of Tuesday's (08Jan08) edition of Dr. Phil McGraw's U.S. TV show, after the therapist visited the troubled singer in hospital on Saturday (05Jan08).

McGraw chatted to Spears as she checked out of Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was admitted on Thursday (03Jan08), following a stand-off with police at her Beverly Hills mansion when she refused to hand over her boys to ex-husband Kevin Federline after a scheduled visit.

Spears was temporarily held at Cedars-Sinai under Section 5150, meaning medics had reason to believe she is a danger to herself or others - and McGraw insists the 26-year-old is in urgent need of professional help.

He says, "My meeting with Britney and some family members (on Saturday) morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention.

"She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car."

McGraw will tape the Spears-themed show on Monday (07Jan08); it will air on Tuesday. It's not thought Spears will be contributing in any way.

On Friday (04Jan08), a judge awarded Federline "sole legal custody and sole physical custody" of Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one, at an emergency hearing. The custody order lasts until 14 January (08).
