Dr.
Phil Regrets Making Britney Spears Statement
1/19/08
American TV self-help guru Dr. Phil McGraw regrets going public with
his thoughts about Britney Spears' mental health earlier this month
(Jan08).
McGraw agreed to meet with Spears after she was committed to Los
Angeles'
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center following an apparent breakdown at her home
on 4 January (08).
He then upset members of her family by publicly revealing his thoughts
about Spears' mental health and has come under fire from his peers for
reportedly planning a now-scrapped TV special around her troubles.
And McGraw could find himself in trouble with California's medical
authorities after Board Of Psychology bosses received a complaint claiming
he was practicing without a valid California license when he went to
Spears' aid.
McGraw now admits he wishes he'd never made his statement.
He says, "Was it helpful to the situation? Regrettably, no. It was
not, and I have to acknowledge that and I do.
"I definitely think if I had it to do it over again, I probably
wouldn't make any statement at all. Period."
