American Idol in San Diego
January 22, 2008

The surf was up and sun was hot while twelve thousand hopefuls filled
the arena for their shot at stardom. Only a few succeeded.
The first to win the golden ticket was an overly confident and maybe a
little too egotistical, Tatiana. I thought her “Someone To Look Over Me”
was barely good enough. We will see what happens to her in Hollywood.
Perry told us that his deceased wife was in the wrong place at the
wrong time with the wrong people when she was killed in January 2005. Now
a single parent to his little child, he deservedly earned a golden ticket
to Hollywood singing “I’ll Make Love to You.” He could be a
contender.
Michael the Aussie’s song “I’m Been Loving You Too Long” earned
him a ticket to Hollywood.
Valerie had convinced herself that she sounded like Mariah Carey. She
was wrong wrong wrong. She sound more like iron nails scrapping on a tin
trash can. But you were right about one thing, Valerie, you were not cool.
Monique the sobbing nurse was unable to resuscitate her totally messed
up version of “I Believe in Miracles”. And her boyfriend, Chris,
literally had to be escorted from the judging chamber after several nasal
flat attempts to win a ticket.
But then we had Samantha who thinks that Simon is a hot bad boy. While
her sister sat on Simon’s lap, yup-you read that correctly, Samantha
sparkled with “Until You Come Back” and is heading to Hollywood. Maybe
Simon is heading out with the sister?
American Idol audition addict Blake has tried out in eleven different
cities and tonight he fared no better.
Alberto the shy eagle who pranced to a fan dance told us that he lived
too much in his imagination. He must reside there permanently because only
in his mind could he possible think he can sing.
Overcoming a paralyzed vocal cord, 16 year old David sang his way to
Hollywood with “Waiting on the World to Change.” He has a huggable
appeal and if he can maintain his composure under pressure, he may be a
real contender.
The final contestant was Irish tattoo artist, Carly, who earned a
Hollywood ticket in Season 5 but was disqualified due to a visa problem.
But she is back in the competition with her rendition “I’m Every
Woman.”
Out of the thousands and thousands who tried out, San Diego blessed
only 30 with the golden ticket.
