American
Idol in Charleston 1/24/08
January 23, 2008
By Marcus
The first contestant would have been Oliver, but his wife’s water
broke and they dashed to the delivery room. Will he return to deliver his
song? Stay tuned….
Unemployed “Rishard the Fro” yelled rather than sang “I Can’t
Make You Love Me” and left with no ticket.
Roller skating waitress DeAnna failed to impress with her flat version
of “Fancy.” And when rejected, she served up a platter of slow
sizzling anger.
Crystal and Randy first met on the American Idol message board and then
in person during the auditions. And when they met, it was love, sweet
love. They performed “She’s More” as a duet. Well, their love was
hotter than their singing and no ticket for either of them.
But jolly excited Jeffrey with his less talented sister, Michelle, did
well enough with their duet song of “I’m Your Angel” to win tickets
to Hollywood. Right now, little sister is coasting on Big J’s ability.
However for her to stay in competition, she needs to get into vocal shape.
Amy, a confident 16 year old high school junior, captain of the dance
team and a speaker on abstinence earned a ticket with “Reflections.” I
thought she was weak with underpowered vocals.
Meanwhile, Oliver and his “ready to deliver real soon, like real soon”
wife are driving lost in Charleston while frantically looking for the
hospital….stay tuned.
Growing up on Charleston Beach, 24 year old London’s life was
shattered three years ago when her father succumbed to cancer. Since then,
she has focused on living life fully and positively. That zest and her
vocal tones singing “Good Morning Heartache” earned her a Hollywood
ticket.
Meantime, Oliver and his wife have arrived at Labor and Delivery…stay
tuned.
Air Force Captain Lindsey flies the hulking C-17s but she could not
deliver a song payload with “Black Velvet.”
Arrogant Aretha pitched like ocean whitecaps with “I Have Nothing.”
She gave the judges “what for” but her singing was horrible.
However the “deluded as a tree stump” medal goes to Joshua whose
singing sounded like a hog caller battling strep throat.
Meantime, Oliver and his wife Alison have a new baby girl, Emma Grace.
Oliver came back for his audition but his singing did not impress the
judges. But Simon, Paula and Randy certainly were impressed with baby Emma
Grace who has to be the youngest ever to appear be the American Idol
judges.
How many of the ten thousand contestants earned a golden ticket?
Twenty-three.
