Barrino Wants to Play Debbie Allen in Biopic 7/23/06
American Idol star Fantasia Barrino had such a hard time playing
herself in a new TV movie she wants to play director Debbie Allen in a
biopic - to show her what it's like to have your past dragged out on the
screen.
Scenes featuring the singer's difficult childhood and teenage rape
ordeal appear in the film Life is Not a Fairy Tale, which is directed by
Fame star Allen.
And Barrino admits it was hard enough watching the harrowing scenes,
let alone playing herself reliving her awful past - and now she'd like her
director to understand what she went through during filming.
She says, "I'm going to play Debbie Allen way better than she
plays herself.
I want to play Debbie Allen. I would love to. Watch out for me. The
next movie, I'm playing Debbie Allen."
But Barrino insists she thinks Allen did a great job in bringing her
autobiography to the screen, and insists her planned biopic would be a
tribute to the revered actress/dancer.
