Marc
Cherry "Bummed" About Not Being Nominated for Emmy
7/25/06
Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry is 'bummed' his hit TV show
was snubbed by the Emmy awards and won't be attending the ceremony next
month (AUG06) - because he wasn't even invited.
The show won 15 Emmys last year (05) in its first season, but only
received one nomination this year for Alfre Woodard as Best Supporting
Actress in a Comedy Series.
He refused to confirm rumors the rest of the cast, including leading
ladies Teri
Hatcher, Marcia
Cross, Nicollette
Sheridan and Eva
Longoria, would also be skipping the show because of the lack of
nominations.
Cherry says, "I would assume that Felicity (Huffman) will go to
present an award because it's a tradition for the previous winner to
present that award.
"But I don't know for sure. I haven't asked the girls if they're
going."
He admits he was upset about not receiving more nominations after the
hoopla surrounding the wins last year, saying, "Am I a little bummed
out? Sure.
"To me, the shocker was Lost
(not being nominated for Outstanding Drama after winning last year). I
thought that was odd to the point of 'What the heck is going on with the
Academy?'"
Cherry insists he'd rather stay home than go through the stress of
sitting through the ceremony.
He adds, "I was very honored to be nominated last year, but to sit
there and lose twice...was excruciating. Then you go to the parties and
everyone comes up to you and says, 'You were robbed.'
"So I was like, 'This is the most annoying evening of my life.' I
will be happy to sit at home and watch other writers go through
that!"
