Magic for Harry Potter at the Box Office
7/16/07
Harry Potter
still knows how to weave a spell on the U.S. box office - the fifth movie
in the magical family franchise has conjured up $77.4 million to debut at
the top of the American movie charts.
Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix has grossed $140 million in
America since opening on Wednesday (11Jul07). The movie has also taken in
$190.3 million around the rest of the world in five days.
The Order of the Phoenix looks set to become the most successful Potter
film to date after grossing more business in five days than each of the
first three movies did in their first full week, and almost matching the
$146 million first-week total of the last Harry Potter release, The Goblet
of Fire."
Last week's blockbuster Transformers slipped to two with an impressive
$36 million second weekend tally, giving the Michael Bay action film a
10-day total of $223 million.
But the news wasn't so good for Elisha Cuthbert's new gory horror film
Captivity, which missed out on a place in the new box office top 10 with a
dire $1.55 million.
