Jennifer Love Hewitt Won't Face Legal Action Over Ghost Whisperer 7/31/08
Jennifer Love Hewitt's former management company has dropped an unpaid
commission lawsuit against the actress.
Executives at Handprint Entertainment filed suit against the star in
April 2007, accusing her of reneging on a verbal deal to pay 10 per cent
commission for every deal they secured for her while she was their
client.
The management team claim they helped Love Hewitt land the lead role in
hit TV show The Ghost Whisperer. But Love Hewitt parted ways with
Handprint Entertainment in 2005 - the same year Ghost Whisperer
premiered on U.S. TV.
Handprint Entertainment heads wanted at least $375,000 (£187,500) in
damages, after alleging the show brought the actress back "to national
prominence as a TV star".
However, in a request filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday
(29Jul08), the management firm's bosses have asked for a judge to
dismiss the suit.
An attorney for the company has refused to comment on the reasons for
the move, but the legal papers state the request was filed "with
prejudice" - meaning the plaintiff has decided not to pursue the case in
the future.
