Russell Crowe Plans to Look After Prized Braddock Receipt  6/3/05

Russell Crowe has confirmed he's the new owner of a treasured piece of memorabilia from 1920s boxing hero Jim Braddock - after buying the receipt the US Government gave his hero for paying back his unemployment "relief." 

Proud Braddock insisted on returning the cash given to him while unemployed - and handed over a portion of his winnings to officials, who gratefully gave the boxer a receipt of his payback. 

Crowe reveals, "It came up on a sports auction thing while we were still shooting... It was just listed as 'receipt that was in the wallet of James J Braddock when he died.' "I'm looking at it, going, 'That's the thing, that's the actual thing,' so he carried that 'til the day he died, so now I have it and I'm gonna look after it."
