Nicole Kidman's Mother Opts for Reese Witherspoon  6/17/05

Nicole Kidman's mother would have rejected her for the role of witch Samantha in Bewitched - and chosen Reese Witherspoon instead. Kidman stars alongside Will Ferrell, Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine in the big screen adaptation of the classic TV comedy. 

She spent hours practicing Samantha's - originally played by late actress Elizabeth Montgomery - famous nose wiggle while holidaying with her parents, but found her mother an unhelpfully negative distraction. 

She says, "I went on holiday with my family before I made Bewitched, and we watched old episodes while I practiced nose twitches in front of a mirror. "My mom said, 'I don't think you look very much like her. I think Reese Witherspoon looks more like her.'"
