Singer Shakira was once expelled from her Catholic school after she wrote a satirical article for the school newspaper.

The outspoken Colombian was finally let back in after the nuns who ran the school backed down - but she still remembers the stir she caused, in a country notoriously sensitive about politics.

She says, "At that time - well, since I remember - politics in Colombia was really agitated and angry. And I mixed some political figures with the nuns - with, of course, a lot of humour. And there was a little but of trouble.

"But the nuns regretted it and said, 'OK, you can stay.'"
