Heartache Left Beyonce Determined to Play Live 8
6/30/05
Beyonce Knowles had no hesitation in signing up to perform at this
weekend's (02JUL05) Live 8 concert in Pennsylvania, because she's still
scarred by memories of her trip to a poverty-stricken South African
townships two years ago (03).
The singer and her group Destiny's Child will perform live in front of
a global TV audience on Saturday as part of Sir Bob Geldof's ambitious
10-venue Live Aid sequel - aimed at raising awareness about the ongoing
troubles in the world's poorest countries.
Knowles insists there was no way she could say no when the trio were
asked to perform alongside Rob Thomas, Will
Smith, Sean 'P Diddy' Combs and Stevie Wonder at Philadelphia's Museum
Of Art show.
She tells MTV News, "I saw it with my own eyes and any human being
who can see the poverty and see how many people are infected there, you
have no choice, you want to do something.
"We were pulling everything we had out of our purses and we were
giving them to everybody because there are people out there so much less
fortunate than you are." |
