George Clooney Plans G8 Summit Trip to Britain  6/30/05

George Clooney will be making up for lost time in Britain this weekend (02-04JUL05), by scheduling meetings with Prime Minister Tony Blair and other world leaders at the G8 Summit in Scotland.

The movie star insists he has spent too long on the sidelines as his famous pals team up with charities trying to boost funding to the world's impoverished countries and plans to spend his July 4 holiday weekend urging politicians to take poverty seriously.

Clooney will fly to Scotland on Friday (01JUL05) and plans to meet the members of the G8 Summit together with fellow celebrities Sir Bob Geldof and Bono, who are part of the force behind Saturday's (02JUL05) Live 8 awareness shows.

He says, "We're working on the Make Poverty History campaign to try and get members of G8 to throw a little more money toward Africa."

Clooney, who is also trying to arrange a one-on-one meeting with Blair, regrets it has taken him so long to get involved with the worthwhile cause.

He adds, "I came to it much later than most of my friends."

Clooney will also team up with Pitt at the London Live 8 concert in Hyde Park. Pitt was originally slated to co-present at the Live 8 show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
