The Simple Life stars Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie duped pals at their posh Beverly Hills high school by lying about fictitious summer camp experiences.

The socialites' protective parents refused to allow the girls to attend summer camp, and so they had to revert to watching promotional videos and memorizing hiking trails and camp rules by heart.

Richie reveals, "We would go and buy the promotional tapes for the summer camp and take them home and watch them and pretend that we were at camp.

"We would go back to school the next year and lie and say that we went 'cos we, like, knew all the trails."

Richie is still bemused as to why her father, soul great Lionel Richie, was so opposed to letting his daughter spend time away from home: "They (parents) didn't like me sleeping out, they preferred if I had friends sleep at my house."
