"Scared Paris Hilton Prepares for Jail at MTV Movie Awards"  6/4/07

Socialite Paris Hilton made a surprise appearance at last night's (03Jun07) MTV Movie Awards, despite being "scared" about her upcoming 23-day jail term.

The hotel heiress has to report to Los Angeles' Century Regional Detention Center by tomorrow (05Jun07) to start serving her sentence for violating her probation following a 2006 drink-driving arrest.

Hilton decided to spend her last hours of freedom at the awards show in Universal City, California.

She said, "I'm doing OK, obviously a little scared right now. I'm scared but I'm being strong and I'm ready to face my sentence.

"I hope this can be an example to other young people and the decisions they make and use it as something positive.

"I love the Movie Awards and I wanted to do something fun before I went off (to jail).

"My family and my friends and my fans, from whom I've had thousands of letters from around the world, have been so supportive. It's really helped me during this time.

"These last couple of weeks there's been a lot of time for self-reflecting on my life."
