British singer Joss Stone refuses to hire a manager because she can take her own phone calls and organize her own affairs.

The You Had Me hit maker takes her mother's advice that all you need is "half a brain" to manage your own career.

She says, "(My mother told me) managers say, 'Guess what? I got you a slot on the Superbowl!' or whatever. But they didn't get it for you.

"It was your reputation and commercial standing that got it and they were just the person who took the call. So why can't I be the one who picks up the phone? I've got no problem at all with talking."
