Ashanti Asks Fussy Mom to Play Herself in New Video  3/22/05

Ashanto didn't have to look too far to find the right woman to play her fussy mother in new video Don't Let Them - she picked her own mum.

The R&B star, who co-directed the promo, asked her manager mum Tina Douglas to play herself in the video, because she remembered how the matriarch used to turn her romantic encounters into nightmares when she was growing up.

Ashanti recalls, "I remember the first time she met one of my first boyfriends. She would not let me drive in a car with him.

"He came to pick me up and she said, 'You stay right here, I'm gonna get in the car with him. We're gonna go down the street 'cos I wanna know if he can drive.

"I was like, 'Oh my God.' I couldn't believe it."
