American
Idol March 8th “Eight Men Slug It Out” 3/9/06
By Marcus
Eight men went for broke in
their efforts to make it the final six. This is a recap.
Symbolic painting artist Gedeon’s singing was technically sound
and clean, but he just doesn’t register much excitement. I know that he
could and if he wants to stay in the contest, he absolutely must work on
his brush strokes. He needs to become broad, overlapping and brilliant.
Shaved head Chris set last week’s bench mark and our expectation
for tonight’s performance was mountain peak high. He didn’t take us to
the top. I don’t know if his rope is frayed or what, but he needs a
little more climbing practice.
Comic face ballad singer Kevin’s voice wobbled like a weak-knee
senior citizen after climbing the stadium steps. He is not going beyond
tonight. Sorry, Kevin.
Identical twin Bucky’s country voice is as comfortable as an old
leather jacket. That is, worn in the right spots and soft where it counts.
But if he limits himself to just country and western, he just will not
make it to the final rounds.
Baby faced Will’s song attempt didn’t turn us on. In fact he
was as boring as a cold biscuit. Does anyone remember what he sang? Or
why? Bye bye, Will.
In tonight’s
performance,
Tyler
the Easter Bunny was the highlight. He has a basket full of admirers and
collecting a following.
Elliot needs to loosen up. He has the vocals and the guts to reach
us, but his stage presence is like a bag of lead shot. Work on the moves,
Elliot, and
America
will love ya.
Handyman Ace was the final singer. His impression of Michael
Jackson had me ready to flip the channel. Ace can and has been a hot
contestant but tonight, well he left me tired.
Compared to the young women’s performance on Tuesday, these guys
just did not measure up. I think that unless the guys step up the talent,
the women will sweep this American Idol contest.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s recap of the final 12 of six women and
six men.
