US Harry Potter Magic as DVD Sells Five Million in a Day  3/11/06

Boy wizard Harry Potter has worked up fresh magic on US DVD buyers after turning his latest release into the movie franchise's biggest hit.

Potter's fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, (starring Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson) was released in America on Tuesday (07MAR06) and racked up first-day sales of five million.

That's the Potter franchise's best-ever first-day DVD sales.

The film, which opened in theatres in November (05), generated $288 million in America alone.

But even five million sales couldn't topple Finding Nemo, which holds the first-day sales record for a DVD release - with eight million.
