American Idol March 9th  “Shattered Dreams”  3/10/06

American Idol is all about possibilities and risks. Being told that you are a great singer by family and friends is kind of like enjoying your grandmother’s hot apple pie. You know that it is good and it is especially delicious because someone you loved baked it just for you. But to present yourself to critical dissection by professional music judges is another matter. Then on top of that, finding out how the American audience loves or hates or rejects you, well that is a painful reckoning of coldest reality.

      And part of that dreadful reckoning is learning how well you performed, or how poorly you performed. There is so much pressure on these young singers, especially those who are still students and not singing in nightly gigs. Tonight was bitter truth for these contestants and for four of them, it was a one way flight back home. There is not a gentle way to do this. So much is riding on this decision to be in or to be out of the top twelve. And here are those shattered dreamers:

      Baby Face Will was sent home with the lowest vote for the men and the second lowest for the men was Gedeon. Cowgirl Kinnik was sent home with the lowest vote for the females and Athletic competitor Ayla was right behind her. Yes, their dreams of being America ’s Idol are now gone. But they all have good voices, they all are ambitious and they all may surprise us in the future.

      The competition is heating up like a smoldering volcano. And only the very best will be crowned American Idol. But before that happens, more dreams will be shattered. And that will not be pretty.
