Makeover Home Edition Preview for April 2nd
3/27/06
WOMAN WHO WON HER BATTLE WITH ADDICTION AND IS NOW FIGHTING TO HELP
PEOPLE IN NEED WILL HAVE HER HURRICANE-DAMAGED HOME REPAIRED THANKS TO
ABC'S "EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION"
Sadie Holmes and her family of Altamonte Springs, FL, received the
remarkable news that their hurricane damaged home will be renovated in
seven days thanks to "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," in two
back-to-back episodes, SUNDAY APRIL 2 (7:00-8:00 & 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET)
on ABC.
For years Sadie Holmes battled addiction, but she eventually won that
battle and turned her life around. Sadie's community, having witnessed
this, reached out to her and began to donate food, clothing and furniture,
which allowed her to make a brand new start. Soon the donations became
more than Sadie and her family needed, however, so she started donating
them to others in need. These actions led to the creation of the first
non-profit in their community, Sadie Holmes Help Services, Inc. Although
the organization was initially run out of the Holmes' house, in 2003 Sadie
and her children made the decision to move into a rented apartment so they
could have more room for the rapidly increasing donations.
Sadie doesn't pay herself for her work but instead supports herself and
her children out of minimal child support. She really believes that her
purpose in life is to run this organization and help others in need. She
teaches these values to her children, and their goal is to build a home
large enough so that they can live and run the non-profit out of the same
building. A longer-term goal is to build a halfway house for recovering
drug addicts so they don't have to go back to the streets.
But then came Hurricane Charley, which badly damaged the Holmes' house.
Without the money to fix it, they lost their insurance. The house was
damaged further by a fire in 2005; with no insurance and no means to fix
things, the Holmes are really stuck. Somehow Sadie continues to run the
non-profit out of that home and continues to rent a separate space for her
family.
The generosity and determination of this woman and her children will
pay off when "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," along with local
builder Mercedes Homes, pull together to give them the home they deserve.
While the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" design team,
contractors and hundreds of workers and volunteers are transforming the
Holmes' house into a dream home, they will go to Disneyland for vacation.
The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition" will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Paul DiMeo, Preston
Sharp, Ed Sanders and Tanya McQueen. The series is produced by Endemol
USA, a division of Endemol Holding. David Goldberg is the president of
Endemol USA. It's executive-produced by Tom Forman and
co-executive-produced by Denise Cramsey. "Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition" is broadcast with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed
captioning. This program carries a TV-PG parental guideline.
