Idol March 28th “Dull Times at American Idol” 3/29/06
American
Idol Survey - Who Will Win?
By
Marcus
Here is a recap of an
overall boring American Idol evening. The selections were anything from
the 21st century.
But rather than being here and now, most were
over there and gone.
Lisa sang “Because of You” and we all felt her pain as she
struggled through it. Much of her vocals lacked power and her ending was
watered and colorless. She stumbled tonight. And she may not recover.
“Suds in the Bucket” was selected by Kellie. Her country twang
swung freely from her hips. She is a country polished upcoming country
star, sparkling and ready to entertain.
Ace’s “Drops of Jupiter” song was more like the last wrung
out drops of dirty water from a car sponge. He had no purpose, no stream
of power, no excitement. And he literally swallowed his ending like he was
swallowing a nasty taste of spoiled potato.
Taylor
’s “Trouble” did hold our attention but did not excite us. It was
okay, but pancakes with syrup are also okay. But he needed to add some
pecans to the recipe and then drizzle on some heated
Connecticut
maple syrup.
Then we had Mandisa. We expect excitement from this powerful
singer. Instead, we were listening to some church testimony. Perfect for a
tent revival but not for American Idol.
Chris’ “What If” was in your face, loud, powerful and
obnoxious. But his selection
really didn’t permit us to experience his depth.
“The Voice Within” was selected by Katharine. She didn’t
ignite us. In fact, it was as if she extinguished the embers of her quest
for Idol-hood.
Cowboy Bucky sang like his mouth was full horseshoes. His vocals
were practically incoherent.
Thankfully and finally after a rather boring evening,
Paris
reminded us what it is to be a star. She is so hot, that she swizzles on
the coldest day. She is the American Idol.
Bringing up the broom sweep, Elliott’s musical accompaniment was
too powerful for his voice. His dance was terrifying but his natural
enthusiasm still makes us love him.
Tonight the ten hopeful took the stage to impress us. Most of them
failed. For those who survive this week’s cut, they better make a
personal reflection if they plan to continue contending.
