Pamela
Anderson Urges Canadian Leader to Take Seal Concern Seriously
3/29/06
Pamela Anderson has joined the celebrities attacking Canadian Prime
Minister Stephen Harper over the country's seal culling, insisting on a
face-to-face meeting with the leader.
The Canadian actress is spearheading a petition drive against her
homeland's seal slaughter and has written to Harper, cautioning him not to
turn a deaf ear to the international outcry that is building against the
seal kill.
In a letter faxed to Harper yesterday (28MAR06) the Stacked
star writes, "As a proud Canadian who frequently travels abroad, I am
alarmed that people are starting to see us as a country more beholden to a
pack of greedy hunters and the seal skin fashion whims of a few countries
than attentive to the massive international outcry against such a barbaric
activity.
"One of the biggest problems facing the US government is appearing
arrogant and oblivious to world opinion, and I'd hate to see that happen
to Canada, too."
Anderson, who will be in Canada this weekend (01-02APR06) to host the
Juno Awards, also asks to meet personally with Harper, adding, "On
Monday, I'd love to come to Ottawa to meet with you personally about these
concerns."
Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Heather Mills-McCartney recently
visited the seal fields to highlight the plight of Canada's seal
population and Monday (27MAR06) singer Morrissey announced he'd boycott
Canada from all upcoming world tours until the country ceased culling
seals.
