Jolie Fights for Rights to Australian Abduction Story
3/2/07
Angelina Jolie is attempting to buy film rights from a Canadian mother
who 'stole back' her abducted children from their estranged father in
Australia.
The Mr and Mrs
Smith star has contacted embattled mother Melissa Hawach and has
expressed an interest in playing her on the big screen.
Hawach was reunited with her children, Hannah and Cedar, after hiring
two former Australian and New Zealand special forces soldiers to steal
them back from her ex-husband Joseph last year (06).
Jolie's representative called Hawach's Sydney agent, Sean Anderson, on
Wednesday (28FEB07) to pitch the actor for the part.
Anderson said a spokesman for Jolie made the bid in a phone call and
that he was expecting further details of Jolie's interest in an email from
her production company.
Anderson tells Sydney's Daily Telegraph, "She has shown interest
in playing Melissa. For someone with Angelina's profile to be keen, it's
obviously very flattering."
According to Anderson, five major Hollywood film studios have already
bid on Hawach's harrowing tale.
