Denzel
Washington to Receive Black Education Award
3/4/08
Hollywood actor Denel Washington is to be honored for his work in
helping black students complete their education.
The actor recently directed and starred in The Great Debaters - a movie
inspired by a black college debate team battling an all-white Ivy League
university team during the legal segregation of the 1930s.
And now Washington and his wife Pauletta will be lauded by the United
Negro College Fund (UNCF) - which will bestow upon the couple the
prestigious Frederick D. Patterson Award, a prize given to those who have
made a significant contribution to advancing black education.
The pair will receive the award at a UNCF dinner in New York on 7 March
(08).
