“Eight American Idol Men”
March 4, 2008
By Marcus
Luke Menard started off tonight’s program with a poor rendition of
“Wake Me Up.” His voice was weak, pitchy and he cracked on the high
notes like a cheap champagne glass. He needs to start packing his bags for
the trip home.
Then we had David Archuleta who has been a blazing singer throughout
the competition. We have come to expect much from this young vocalist and
again he almost flawlessly delivered with “Another Day In Paradise”
excepting his spotty ending. I think he needs to lighten up and show us
that he really enjoys being live on stage versus singing as if he was in a
recording studio with no audience watching.
Danny Noriega’s purple streaked hair and effeminate mannerisms are a
major distraction to his singing “Tainted Love.” I just do not get
anything special from him.
David Hernandez missed the high notes on “When You Touch Me Like
That.”
It was like watching an exhausted baseball pitcher struggling to find
home plate and throwing wide every time.
And then we watched Michael Jones struggling with both his mike stand
and his vocals throughout ‘Don’t You Forget About.” It was not
special but rather a routine yawning performance. I think that he will be
safe for next week, but he needs to wake up and perform for any hope of
staying longer.
If talented David Cook would just leave his bloody guitar backstage and
just sing to us, he would sparkle even more than he does. His version of
“I Wonder Where You Are” was delightful. But please, leave the guitar
to the band.
Jason Castro is an artist. Using his vocals as his brush, he painted us
a gentle tender portrait with “It’s Cold.” And surprisingly, he has
been improving every week.
He could be and should be a serious contender for the top four.
Tonight’s last song, “She Fills Me Up”, was a little wobbly and
Chikezie’s
falsetto attempt was shaky. Will he return next week? Probably.
And that is your recap of the remaining eight male contestants. Make
you calls and place your votes. And don’t forget to return here tomorrow
night for the recap of the remaining eight female vocalists.
