“Eight American Idol Women”
March 5, 2008
By Marcus
Tonight we will hear and critique the remaining eight women finalists.
With just a few exceptions, last night the men’s performances barely
rated mediocrity. Let us hope that the women do better.
First to perform was Asia’h Epperson singing a pleasant version of
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” But it was only pleasant. And when I
closed my eyes to just listen to her, she sounded raspy. Don’t believe
me? Try it yourself next time she sings. Close your eyes and listen.
However, I think she will make the top 12 but what happens in two more
weeks with her thin voice?
Kady Malloy tried to dress herself with a sultry smoky type of voice,
singing “Who Wants To Live Forever.” She did much better this week
than last, but considering the depth of these talented women singers, “better”
is just not enough. She remains one of the weakest female singers.
Rock and blues vocalist Amanda Overmyer nailed “I Hate Myself.” If
this was “American Rocker Idol,” she would already be signing a
recording contact. But this is American Idol and I don’t know if the
public will support a rocker for the Idol crown.
Nonetheless, she is an exciting singer.
Irish rose Carly Smithson’s “I Drove All Night” sizzled white
hot. This woman is singing to win and she will easily cruise into the top
twelve.
Kristy Lee Cook’s county voice is strong and comforting as she sang
“Faithfully.” But I don’t think she has the pizzazz to make it into
the big time.
Ramiele Malubay started singing like a soft little kitten but she never
evolved into a full gown feline with her ordinary version of “Take A
Look At Me Now.” We have come to expect much more from her and tonight
we were especially disappointed. I don’t think that she is a secure bet
for the top ten. For the top twelve, yes, but beyond that…..
Hard peaches and freezer burned ice cream aptly described Brooke White’s
stale performance of “Heartache To Heartache.” Brooke, start packing
your bags.
And closing tonight’s show was Syesha Mercado singing “I’m Saving
All My Love For You.” It was a solid performance but not memorable. She
will continue with the competition but she really hasn’t found her
individual self in this contest. I think that she can and we wait for that
transformation.
And that concludes the singing of the remaining twelve women
contestants.
So grab your phones and start dialing. But don’t forget to return
right here tomorrow night for the results of who is sent home packing.
