"EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" REBUILDS A HOME THAT WAS SEVERELY
DAMAGED BY HURRICANE KATRINA AND HELPS A FAMILY WHOSE SON WITH DOWN'S SYNDROME
HAS INSPIRED THEM TO HELP ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND DISABILITIES
"Gaudet Family" -- The Gaudet family from Mobile, Alabama were
overjoyed to hear the news that Ty and the gang will build them a new home in
just seven days, on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," SUNDAY, MARCH 23
(8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Stephen (53) and Lydia (48) have been married for 27 years and have six boys,
Joseph (22), Christopher (20), Thomas (17), Patrick (15), Michael (13) and Peter
(9), who has down's syndrome. The Gaudet family has a true passion for making
sure that everyone in their community has access to programming and resources
that can better a person's life. Inspired by their son, Peter, the Gaudets took
their community involvement to a whole new level. Lydia works at the Easter
Seals and teaches free parenting classes, with an emphasis on parenting special
needs children. She also heads a literacy program to teach adults to read, and
the entire family works with a camp for disabled youth and adults.
The Gaudets
have always put others first, while neglecting their own home. Battered by
Hurricane Katrina, a small home fire and with eight inhabitants, their small
home is showing signs of serious distress. A leaky roof, a crumbling kitchen and
a disastrous bathroom are just a few of the items in the Gaudet home that need
extensive repair. Even after Katrina came through Mobile, the Gaudet boys went
through their community helping their neighbors clean up their yards. Lydia has
helped with disaster relief and went down to the gulf to hand out books to kids
who had lost everything. In addition, husband Stephen was laid off, so now
Joseph and Christopher have taken full-time jobs to help their parents out, but
it never seems to be enough.
In this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," Ty and the
gang head to Alabama to deliver a safe and comfortable home to this loving
family who have given so much to their community.
While Ty and the designers, local builder Heritage Homes and the hundreds of
volunteers and workers are rebuilding their home, the Luther family will go on
vacation to the Hilton in Arizona.
The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition" will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Michael
