Kate Bosworth blames a family tragedy for her drastic weight loss that left her looking skeletal thin in 2006.

Tabloids speculated about her skinny look, claiming it was due to the heartbreak following her split from actor boyfriend Orlando Bloom, but the actress reveals it was down to something much more serious.

Now looking healthy again, Bosworth says, "I went through a really tough time then.

"I had a family member who we found out had a terminal illness, and he just passed.
