Val Kilmer owes his new-found sobriety to the influence of Robert Downey Jr., who insisted he stay teetotal during the shoot of their latest movie.

The Hollywood hunk found attempts to drink a beer on the set of Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang constantly thwarted by his co-star Downey Jr, who is famously recovering from addictions to drink and drugs.

Kilmer says, "I've never been healthier during a shoot. Robert won't touch a drop of alcohol these days.

"Every time I went to open a beer he'd have a crack at me - so I stayed teetotal, too."
