Nicole Richie's Dad Lionel Laughed Off Proposal  5/9/05

Lionel Richie initially thought his daughter Nicole Richie's boyfriend Adam Goldstein was joking when he asked the soul legend for permission to marry the reality TV beauty.

Goldstein, also known as DJ AM, took the traditional route and asked the former Commodores singer for his blessing, before proposing to The Simple Life star on 8 February (05).

Lionel says, "I thought maybe she was pregnant and already married. I said, 'OK, I know that joke.'

"Then I realized AM had that look only a serious man gets, so I messed with them for a few more days."
