Former World Class Boxer encourages “The Contender” Wishes Manfredo
Wisdom, Strength, Spirit and Victory
(Providence, Rhode Island, USA) Reality TV’s Peter Manfredo, “The
Contender” who boxes under the “Pride of Providence” banner, got a
surprise visit at his gym today from former New England Champion
middleweight Wilfred “Indian” Greene as Manfredo prepared to leave for
the ‘fight of his life’ in Las Vegas.
Known for getting “more ink than the Governor” in the Providence
Journal, former South Providence native “Wild Willie Greene” was a
free-swinging middleweight known internationally for his Burt Reynolds
looks and gladiatorial prowess. He delivered 35 knock outs in his career
and fought two world class matches, one of them in 1961 against Terry
Downs at England’s Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 people.
Today he is known as Chief Wilfred “Eagle Heart” Greene of the
Seaconke Wampanoag Tribe well known as the First Thanksgiving Tribe.
“I wanted to lend him some encouragement” Greene told spectators.
“When you’re already a winner, everyone congratulates you. But when
you are entering the fight of your life, no one really understands the
stress and pressure unless you’ve already been there. Encouragement and
moral support inspires confidence and that ALWAYS helps. I want him and
his Dad to feel that all Rhode Islanders are in his corner.”
Chief Greene startled some onlookers with special wishes that sounded
like a spiritual blessing. “May you feel the wisdom, strength and spirit
of the Seaconke Wampanoag Nation, and all of Rhode Island upon you as you
fight and defeat your opponent.”
Peter Manfredo Jr’s record is currently 24 wins with 10 Knock Outs.
He is scheduled to fight either Jessie Brinkley or Sergio Mora which will
air May 24th. |
