The Longest Yard Scores With Huge Weekend  5/30/05

Sports movie remake The Longest Yard has scored a huge touchdown at the US box office, taking in $50 million  in its opening weekend. 

The American football film, starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Burt Reynolds and Nelly, is expected to be at number one when new movie official figures are released later today (30MAY05). The prison-based movie fared better than Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and new animated release Madagascar at US cinemas over the Memorial Day weekend. 

But Revenge of The Sith continues to notch up a fortune at the box office - as of Friday (27MAY05) the final Star Wars saga had raked in over $215 million (#113.2 million).
