Week Extreme Makeover Home Edition Goes to New York 5/1/06
"EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" HELPS A NEW YORK CITY AREA
FAMILY RISE ABOVE THE ASHES FROM THEIR BURNED OUT HOME, WHICH WAS SEVERELY
DAMAGED BY A FIRE
Guest Stars Susan Lucci, Fabio and NYC Firefighters Lend a Helping Hand
Winston Peter, a Hindu priest, and his family from Jamaica, NY,
received the answer to their prayers when they were given the good news
that they'll receive a renovated and beautiful new home in just seven
days, thanks to the team of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," in
an episode airing SUNDAY, MAY 7 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television
Network.
Winston and Hardai Peter left their homeland of Guyana in 1996 and
struggled long and hard to make a new home for their family in America.
They were on their way to achieving the American dream when tragedy
struck. In December of 2004, their tri-level colonial house burst into
flames, depriving them not only of their home but all their possessions.
Penniless and without other recourse, the Peters were forced to move back
into their burned out house.
They've since been living in a home without heat or hot water, and with
very little electricity. They have to boil water whenever they need to
bathe and have to cook on a makeshift propane stove. To make the house
seem livable, Winston and his boys use whatever money they get to cover
broken windows with plastic and wood, and hang sheet rock and drywall to
cover up any holes from the fire damage. Winston feels as though he's let
his family down, as he cannot provide them with a proper home. But as a
priest he doesn't make enough money to repair or replace his house.
In this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," the
design team heads to Queens to help this family rise above ashes so they
may live out their American dream in their new American dream home! In
addition, some special guest stars drop by and lend a helping hand:
Michael Moloney drops by the set of "All My Children" to enlist
the aid of star Susan Lucci in decorating a secret room for one of the
family members. And romance expert/model Fabio offers his expertise to the
EM Home designers on matters of the home and heart, while some NYC
firefighters run "fireproofing" tests on the house and give
Tanya McQueen a tour of Ground Zero.
While the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" design team, local
builder Alure Home Improvement, contractors and hundreds of workers and
volunteers are building a new house for the Peter family, the family will
go on vacation to Walt Disney World.
The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition" will feature team leader Ty Pennington, Ed Sanders, Tanya
McQueen, Michael Moloney and Eduardo Xol. The series is produced by
Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It's executive-produced by Tom
Forman and co-executive produced by Denise Cramsey. David Goldberg is the
president of Endemol USA.
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is broadcast with Spanish
subtitles via secondary closed captioning. This program carries a TV-PG
parental guideline.
