Angelina Jolie's Beowulf co-star Ray Winstone has slammed the media as merciless bullies after being horrified by inaccurate claims about the actress during their time on set together.

The Hollywood hard man adored filming with the American beauty, but was shocked by the number of false stories circulating about her private life.

He says, "You know they said in the paper, before she even got on set, that we were having murderous rows!

"Why don't they leave this kid alone? She's a great girl."
