Kathy
Griffin Bombed in Iraq
5/31/06
American comedienne Kathy Griffin dismissed a bomb blast as a door
slamming during a recent tour of duty in Iraq - because she was so worried
about "bombing" onstage.
The funny lady was preparing to make US troops laugh as part of her My
Life on the D-List show near Baghdad, when the encampment was hit by
bombs.
She says, "I was much more worried about bombing than being
bombed.
"A soldier ran in and said, 'Ma'am are you OK...? Don't worry
those rockets were outgoing.' I said, 'I thought it was a door slammed,'
so we took a little rocket fire."
Griffin, who filmed her trip to Iraq for an upcoming US TV special,
admits the food and the desert heat made the experience a trying one - but
at least she got to stay in one of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's
palaces.
She adds, "It's not unlike the Venetian (hotel and casino) in Las
Vegas; I think he must have gone online and looked at picture of the
Venetian or something... I can just see a gondola going by."
