“Two For The Road”

Tonight the results of over 135 millions votes have been made known to us Idol fans. We had the remaining six contestants, all of whom are good singers and some are exceptionally good, waiting with a tension that you could weigh on a grocer’s scale. Which two would be going? And who would be the remaining four?

The first three to face the vote tally were: Melinda Doolittle, Phil Stacey, and LaKisha Jones. Those two powerful women singers will return but Phil will not. Phil has the making of an exceptionally entertaining singer as evidenced by his stylized and energetic farewell song “Blaze of Glory” and he indeed did leave the show with his six-shooter smoking in his hand. He will be heard from again and I predict he will soon have a Top 20 CD.

Next up were the remaining three: Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson. The talented teen Jordin was given an immediate reprieve and claimed her well earned spot in the final four. We were then down to Blake and Chris. Both had performed well during the contest but at times slipped and faltered. Tonight one would be singing their last song from the Idol stage and that person was Chris who ended his challenge for American Idol with “Wanted Dead or Alive.” Chris isn’t as talented as the remaining four and the vote decision was righteous.

But here is the question to be decided next week----will Blake’s hip hop style earn him a position in the final three? I think not.
