Hugh
Grant Provides Scholarship for Old School
5/31/07
British actor Hugh Grant has signed up to sponsor a scholarship at the
London school he attended in the 1970s.
The Notting Hill star will pay the #12,840 ($25,680) tuition fees for
one pupil every year at Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, with the
financial gift named after his late mother, Fynvola Grant.
Peter Winter, headteacher at the school, is delighted his celebrity
past pupil has donated such a generous gift in memory of his mum, who was
a teacher for 30 years before her death in 2003.
He says, "Hugh is very fond of his old school and he did very well
by the school.
"I have to say that when he visited, he gave me - in an entirely
pleasant way
- the most searching grilling about what the school was doing. Like any
donor, he wanted to make sure the money went to where he wanted it to go.
We are thrilled to have Hugh back on board and very positive about the
school."
The first pupil to benefit from the scholarship is the son of a bus
driver from Wembley, north-west London.
