Twain Honored by Her Native Canada 11/19/05
Pop beauty Shania Twain has today (18NOV05) been named an officer of
the Order of Canada for her charity work and "trail blazing"
attitude to music.
The award-winning singer, now based in Switzerland, was honored
alongside fellow Canadians artist Rita Letendre and Olympic champion
Catriona May Doan.
Governor-General Michaklle Jean said of Twain, "Today, she enjoys
enormous success, yet she remains true to her roots.
"There is something in the Canadian psyche that makes us shrink
back from self-congratulations.
"We must not allow our modesty to overshadow our recognition of
those Canadians who give so much to our country and to the world."
Jean added Twain, who is widely recognized as a positive role model,
has lived up to "the Order of Canada".
