Johnny Depp Praises Pogue Poet  11/28/05

Screen star Johnny Depp has hailed alcohol-fuelled punk singer Shane MacGowan as a poet of our time.

The Pogues front man, famed for his rotting teeth and drunken rampages, has charmed the movie icon with his lyrics - which include the romantic gem, "You scumbag, you maggot, you great lousy faggot" from festive anthem Fairytale of New York.

Depp enthuses, "His intake has been pretty impressive over the years.
