Banda
Benefactor Speaks Out Over Madonna Adoption
11/1/06
Pop superstar Madonna's adoption of Malawian tot David Banda has been questioned
by the African orphanage's main benefactor, who admits the hasty process
"angered" her.
Canadian grandmother Jane Glaves, 70, visited Banda's care home on
numerous occasions and formed a close bond with the child.
She is furious Madonna was allowed to use her celebrity status to hurry
up the adoption process, when her own efforts to help two Canadian
families foster kids there took three years.
She says, "At first I was angry that Madonna seemed to be able to
adopt David so quickly because of the length of time and stress the other
two families had to endure.
"In my six years working in Malawi, they are the only orphans I
know to have left the country. Madonna obviously had very good lawyers.
"All I knew about her was that she cavorted half naked in a
conical bra. I found it difficult to come to terms with."
