Katie Holmes and Brooke Shields Become Best Friends  11/2/06

Despite her public battle with Tom Cruise over the use of anti-depressants, Brooke Shields has become close friends with his fiancée Katie Holmes.

Cruise slammed Shields for using medication to treat her postpartum depression after the birth of her daughter Rowan, but apologized to the actress in August (06) for his comments.

The two new mothers both gave birth on 18 April (06) at the same Los Angeles hospital - Shields gave birth to second daughter Grier, while Holmes gave birth to daughter Suri.

Shields tells US entertainment show Access Hollywood that they are "absolutely" friends.

The two actresses share a love of hit TV show Grey's Anatomy and even watched the series' September (06) premiere together in Shields' living room.

Shields adds, "You never know how life is going to bring people together."
