Colombian singer Shakira was the big winner at last night's (02NOV06)
Latin Grammy Awards, taking home four accolades.
The Hips Don't Lie beauty picked up Record Of The Year and Song Of The
Year for La Tortura - which she performed with Spanish heart-throb
Alejandro Sanz - and Album Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Album for
Fijacion Oral Vol 1 at the Madison Square Garden ceremony in New York
City.
Shakira took the opportunity to support illegal immigrants who are
seeking work in the United States, saying, "I hope soon they will
receive they recognition they deserve from the government."
Meanwhile, reggaeton group Calle 13 took home three awards - Best New
Artist, Best Urban Music Album for their eponymous named disc and Best
Short Music Video for Atrevete Te, Te.
Argentine rock star Gustavo CeratiI triumphed in two categories, Best
Rock Song for Crimen and Best Rock Vocal Album for Ahi Vamos, while
Brazilian music legend Sergio Mendes was named Best Brazilian Contemporary
Pop Album for Timeless.
