"EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" GIVES BACK TO A LOVING, SINGLE
FATHER AND HIS FIVE SONS WHO, DESPITE THEIR OWN HARDSHIPS, HAVE HELPED
MAKE THEIR CRIME RIDDEN COMMUNITY A BETTER PLACE
New Designer Rib Hillis Joins the EMHE Team "Marrero Family"
-- The Marrero family of Camden, NJ, who have been living without heat and
insufficient electricity, received the news that Ty and the gang will
build them a new home in a remarkable seven days on "Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition," SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on
the ABC Television Network.
Victor Marrero is a single father of five sons. He has a bad heart
condition, has suffered serious heart attacks and has been laid off twice
in the last few years. He is currently disabled, leaving the family in a
huge financial squeeze and with a home that's falling apart. They're a
hard working, loving family whose only hope of survival is each other. All
five sons have been working hard in attempt to help their father, but the
income isn't enough. Their home has rats, holes, barely any electricity or
heat, un-insulated walls and a back door that doesn't lock. The six family
members have to share one bathroom, and the five boys sleep on three
mattresses.
In a city infested with drugs, crime and the highest poverty rate in
the U.S., the Marrero family is a beacon of light and hope whose story was
told on ABC's "20/20." Despite all of their hardships, they
continue to make their community a better place. Victor began a program
for single fathers called "Single Fathers of Camden."
Most importantly, he has managed to keep all of his sons out of gangs
in a drug trafficking and crime stricken neighborhood. Steven Marrero, 15,
works as a mentor at an after-school program called Urban Promise; Ethan
Marrero, 16, hopes to follow in his brother's footsteps and become a
mentor as well. On this episode of "EMHE," Ty and the team will
relieve some of the stress on Victor's heart and give back to this family
by providing them a new and safe home. And while Ty and the designers,
local builder J.S. Hovnanian & Sons and hundreds of volunteers and
workers rebuild their home in just seven days, the Marrero family will go
on an Adventure by Disney to Spain.
This season every episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"
is going green by incorporating eco-friendly, low-energy and recyclable
resources in the builds. On "Marrero Family," all exterior
products of the home are comprised of renewable and recyclable resources.
The home's new siding is both beautiful and durable, while also reducing
the use of paint on the exterior.
The design team for this episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home
Edition" will feature team leader Ty Pennington and designers Paul
DiMeo, Ed Sanders, Tanya McQueen and introducing new designer Rib Hillis.
The series is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. It's
executive-produced by Denise Cramsey. David Goldberg is the president of
Endemol USA. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is broadcast with
Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning. This program carries a
TV-PG parental guideline.
